American mining engineer Jennings Cox is credited with creating the cocktail during his time in Cuba. The Backstory 


In the 1950s, a bartender named Ramón "Monchito" Marrero of the Caribe Hilton hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, invented the Piña Colada. Inspired by the island's surroundings and exotic fruits, he created the Piña Colada as a way to capture the energy of Puerto Rico into a drink to be enjoyed by all. The Piña Colada, with its base of rum , pineapple juice, and creamy coconut milk, very quickly became a symbol of tropical paradise.



What You'll Need

  • White Rum - choose light and smooth white rum to serve as the base spirit for the cocktail.

  • Coconut Cream - we recommend a high-quality coconut cream or coconut milk to ensure your drink has a rich coconut flavour.

  • Pineapple Juice - freshly squeezed ideal for creating a fresh and tasty cocktail 

  • Sugar Syrup is optional if you prefer a sweeter cocktail

  • Pineapple Wedge and Maraschino Cherry - the perfect garnish for any Piña Colada.


How To Make It Yourself

  1. Fill a blender with ice, then add 2 ounces of white rum, 2 ounces of coconut cream, and 3 ounces of pineapple juice.
  2. If you prefer sweet drinks, add a splash of sugar syrup (to taste).
  3. Blend the ingredients on high speed until smooth and creamy, ensuring that the ice is completely crushed.
  4. Pour the mixture into a chilled hurricane glass or large cocktail glass.
  5. Garnish your Piña Colada with a pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry.
  6. Serve with a straw and enjoy the refreshing taste of tropical fruit and rum.
